The Left Has Made an Industry Out of Denial

Perspective is the key. We know that global warming is not a real problem but fear of it is a symptom of a huge problem.

It’s up to America to deal with the fearmongers. Don’t look to dead and dying Old Europe for help or vision. A productive America relieved them of the responsibility of taking care of themselves since WWII. Instead of looking up to big brother Europe turned on America like a know-it-all drunken minor turns on daddy the milkman.

The challenge for Americans is to not wait until the problem is as bad as it can get. Tiptoeing to the edge we see examples like California, Greece, Spain, Cairo — looking into the abyss and refusing to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Stockton, CA is the largest city to ever file for bankruptcy. It is not the first city and won’t be the last. Bankrupt cities Mammoth Lakes and San Bernardino have already filed for Chapter 9 protection and we have learned not to expect much from the political leadership in bigger cities like San Diego and Los Angeles. We have seen how being responsive to big problems and acting proactively as Wisconsin has done puts the state on a collision course with the people and politcs who caused the problems to begin with.

For example, after studying the SOPs of CARB (Carlifornia Air Resources Board) Anthony Watts said, “I’m ready to declare CARB as an enemy of the people of California.” California’s Teacher’s Union saddled the state with a demented old man, a Leftist, liberal hack for its governor — Jerry Brown — who has delusions of grandeur about using borrowed money and matching federal dollars to build a bullet train to nowhere. A part of Brown’s plan is to exempt the building of the train (the ‘Browndoggle’), from the Left’s own oppressive environmental laws that burden every other activity in the state with impossibly time-consuming red tape and costly hurdles to surmount to accomplish anything constructive (e.g., all shovel-ready b.s. aside, the southern extension of CA’s State Route 241, a privately-funded inland toll road, lies incomplete — a victim of eco-wackpot environmentalism — for more than three years leaving Interstate 5 to swell like a donkey’s ass in a snake’s belly, just miles from famous historical roadways, Routes 1 and 101). It is Brown who surreptitiously orchestrated the legislation that exempted CARB from the state’s Open Meeting Laws.

Undoing what has been done is messy. Driving California towards bankruptcy, the free-money mindset of vested and intransigent Leftist-liberal interests — funded by the dues of unionized government employees — declared war on the productive and created an unsustainable govenment-run plantation. Given the dynamics of the problems filing for bankruptcy is like deploying the landing gear after running out to gas or using the emergency brake after driving off the cliff. States, cities, companies and people who have acted responsibly should not have the fruits of their life’s work become the target of state and federal confiscatory tax policies to bail out the nattering nabobs of nihilism in the blue cities.

Everyone understands what’s happening. It is clear to all who actually work for a living and pay all of the taxes to keep the secular, socialist, big government-education complex in business churning out worthless global warming alarmist pseudoscience and turning out helpless idiots in the public dropout factories; we are being stabbed in the back by bureaucrats. A good beginning is pulling the plug on state-funding of the anti-America lobby and preaching Warmanism in public classrooms.

Having read Harry_Read_Me and Jones’s remarks about his data retention and archiving procedures (or lack of them), I would not trust UEA/CRU to be capable of reading a thermometer on their campus correctly and report the information 24 hours later without transposing digits, inserting a negative sign or some other horror. ~Latimer Alder

We shouldn’t let the lobbies influence science. Whatever criticism might befall the IPCC and the UEA, they’re nothing as bad as lobbyists who are politically motivated and who will manipulate data or select data to make their political point. For example, it’s deplorable for the BBC whenever one of these issues comes up to go and ask what one of the green lobbyists thinks of it. Sometimes their view might be quite right, but it might also be pure propaganda. This is wrong. ~James Lovelock.

The Left has for years made a cottage industry out ‘hiding the decline.’ MBH98/99/08 (aka, the ‘hockey stick’ graph) is a proven scientific fraud. This is not a complicated technical matter on which reasonable people can disagree. There is no proxy for honesty: you either got it or you don’t!

People have asked why mainstream scientists are keeping silent… speaking out leads to immediate attacks…

However, ‘hide the decline’ is an entirely different matter. This is not a complicated technical matter on which reasonable people can disagree: it is a straightforward and blatant breach of the fundamental principles of honesty and self-criticism that lie at the heart of all true science. The significance of the divergence problem is immediately obvious, and seeking to hide it is quite simply wrong. The recent public statements by supposed leaders of UK science, declaring that hiding the decline is standard scientific practice are on a par with declarations that black is white and up is down. I don’t know who they think they are speaking for, but they certainly aren’t speaking for me…

The decision to hide the decline, and the dogged refusal to admit that this was an error, has endangered the credibility of the whole of climate science. If the rot is not stopped then the credibility of the whole of science will eventually come into question. ~Dr. Jonathon Jones

When I refer to the IPCC dogma, it is the religious importance that the IPCC holds for this cadre of scientists; they will tolerate no dissent, and seek to trample and discredit anyone who challenges the IPCC. Who are these priests of the IPCC? Some are mid to late career middle ranking scientists who have done ok in terms of the academic meritocracy. Others were still graduate students when they were appointed as lead authors for the IPCC. These scientists have used the IPCC to gain a seat at the ‘big tables’ where they can play power politics with the collective expertise of the IPCC, to obtain personal publicity, and to advance their careers. This advancement of their careers is done with the complicity of the professional societies and the institutions that fund science. Eager for the publicity, high impact journals such as Nature, Science, and PNAS frequently publish sensational but dubious papers that support the climate alarm narrative. ~Judith Curry

About Wagathon

Hot World Syndrome—fear of a hotter, more intimidating world than it actually is prompting a desire for more protection than is warranted by any actual threat. A Chance Meeting– We toured south along the Bicentennial Bike Trail in the Summer of 1980, working up appetites covering ~70 miles per day and staying at hiker/biker campgrounds at night along the Oregon/California coast (they were 50¢ a day at that time). The day's ride over, and after setting up tents, hitting the showers, and making a run to a close-by store, it was time to relax. The third in our little bicycle tour group, Tom, was about 30 yards away conversing with another knot of riders and treating himself to an entire cheesecake for dinner. He probably figured Jim and I would joke about what a pig he was eating that whole pie and decided to eat among strangers. Three hours later after sharing stories and remarking on a few coincidences that turned up here and there, Tom and one of the former strangers realized they were cousins, meeting in this most unlikely place for the first time. ~Mac
