It’s the Economy Not Global Warming Stupid

Create a parallax view of the world. Start with your favorite global warming memes.

Just replace AGW alarmists’ hypothesized effects on the climate of too many humans producing too much CO2 with the real effects on the socio-economic condition caused by governments spending too many dollars that do not belong to them.

Picture workers poking the days’ earnings through chain link fences so their spouses can quick buy staples before runaway inflation drives the value of their dollars down. Picture a shiftless society grown surly—convinced it is impossible to earn an honest living in America.

If you anti-drillers are good for America look at the size of your AC bill now. As for the economy, here are some hard numbers about the political change to business-hating liberal Utopia: the worst economic recovery since the Great Depression. The ugliest job scene ever: lost jobs – many Americans have been unemployed for years – and targets on the backs of small business, essentially guaranteeing an agonizing no-growth recovery, permanent under-employment and joblessness with increased business costs, skyrocketing consumer prices and more dollars going to China and the Mideast.

With the slowest economic growth comes record joblessness across the United States (with an unemployment rate that is considerably larger than the ‘official’ government rate). That follows a meltdown in Europe. Leftist secular, socialist thinking that is being implemented here has dragged down countries over there and also cities across California and is tying millstones around the necks of the productive.

Economists report that this year will be the highest real unemploy-ment rate in years (i.e., after adjusting the official numbers to account for people who have simply given up looking for work). The secular, socialist agenda is simply crushing the middle-class and the outlook is dismal just as standard of living of the average Greek is falling precipitously.

The Americanism of the founding fathers created more freedom and opportunity for more people than any nation in the planet’s history. Not that the modern Leftist seems to notice. As emissaries of communist, socialist, fascist, totalitarian and terrorist nations and tin-pot dictatorships meet in places like Copenhagen, Cancun and Rio to figure out how to control energy, and by extension all means of production and human endeavor, the future of individual liberty, economic freedom and personal responsibility is rapidly dying and headed for extinction around the world.

The beginning of the 21st century in the Western world is on tract to accomplish nothing of value to the goal of uplifting humanity. No one outside Western civilization is paying much attention anymore to what happens in the halls of the U.S. Congress. America remains in denial about the squandering of riches, the loss of opportunity and individual freedom and the peril that all humanity faces as Western governments inflate their currencies to continue paying for the promises that politicians make and taxpayers can’t afford to keep.

When we think about work, the arguments that once were ideological, theological and economic are now political. Just a little math shows the seriousness of our current predicament: Western governments are running a Democrat Ponzi scheme on the citizenry and working a sting on future generations.

The fact that the social security system was on a pay-as-you-go basis that made no actuarial sense whatsoever was known to first-year econ and finance students back in the late 60s—you just needed to do a little math. Any current financial analysis of entitlement costs that do not show the current situation is worse than ever and about as bad as it can get is nothing but an intellectually bankrupt and dishonest academic fraud designed only to hide the truth and blame others for a bloated Leftist-liberal government grown too large to fail.

Another year of diminished expectations, wasting taxpayers’ earnings and further economic ruin is loading the dice for devastating socio-economic upheaval. Given those impacts of Leftist-liberal ideology, many leading conservative thinkers have come to believe that the loss of traditional Judeo-Christian morals and ethics involves more than a gamble on the goodness of socialism and Euro-Communism: it’s a crapshoot and the odds become less and less favorable as the work ethic and wealth of society goes down. The Western world is quickly moving from a system of wealth creation to a new order based on wealth confiscation (manipulation of interest rates that result in negative yields after deducting inflation amounts to government-sanctioned theft from thrifty workers and working class retirees).

The best laws cannot make a constitution work in spite of morals; morals can turn the worst laws to advantage. That is a commonplace truth, but one to which my studies are always bringing me back. It is the central point in my conception. I see it at the end of all my reflections. ~Alexis de Tocqueville

With what we’re seeing today at with a 22.5% real unemployment rate, a few percent more is simply too much. With the government overspending and cash-for-clunkers misspending that has already happened, a continuation of more of the same that has been talked about in the EU and in America is actually a prescription for long-term disaster. The bankruptcy of cities across California is a warning that the Euro will flat-out disappear and some states will soon be filing for bankruptcy as government workers take to the streets to demand shorter workdays, more weeks off, fatter pensions and free health care.

Let’s get politically real — the loss of Americanism in the world is not a change for the better: it is a net loss for all humanity. In fact it’s fair to say that America has been about the only good thing boding well for humanity on the planet over the last 250 years. The official position of planet Earth at this moment in history should be that Leftist-liberal ideology is destroying the promise of liberty and freedom for all. That is the bottom line.

America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. (Anon)

About Wagathon

Hot World Syndrome—fear of a hotter, more intimidating world than it actually is prompting a desire for more protection than is warranted by any actual threat. A Chance Meeting– We toured south along the Bicentennial Bike Trail in the Summer of 1980, working up appetites covering ~70 miles per day and staying at hiker/biker campgrounds at night along the Oregon/California coast (they were 50¢ a day at that time). The day's ride over, and after setting up tents, hitting the showers, and making a run to a close-by store, it was time to relax. The third in our little bicycle tour group, Tom, was about 30 yards away conversing with another knot of riders and treating himself to an entire cheesecake for dinner. He probably figured Jim and I would joke about what a pig he was eating that whole pie and decided to eat among strangers. Three hours later after sharing stories and remarking on a few coincidences that turned up here and there, Tom and one of the former strangers realized they were cousins, meeting in this most unlikely place for the first time. ~Mac
