Governent Sponsored Superstition and Prejudice

I just read on Bloomberg that, “Obama plans for climate deal as fiscal cliff talks rage,” and earlier that he threatens military action concerning WMD disclosures. Somewhere in all of that political logic and mysticism must be a CO2 tax to spur the society’s need for affordable energy.

What is the real meaning of global warming alarmism? It is short for, ‘Welcome to the fall of Western civilization.’ The new reality is the fall of productivity and the rise of a never-ending battle against government sponsored prejudice and discrimination against the productive.

Society faces government’s use of global warming alarmism to consolidate power through internal disintegration of identity and the pathological perpetuation of hatred of business and capitalism. We’ve seen this play out before–i.e., the promotion of prejudice and discrimination against the productive. This time, instead of Jews it is a group comprised of workers and entrepreneurs in the free enterprise sector that is being maligned by creating negative stereotypes and fear of Americanism and defining as the common enemy those espousing patriotism, nationalism and Judeo-Christian ideals.

“Science is a trusting institution. Trust is not an epistemic problem for science; it is–if one wants to engage in such evaluations–an evident epistemic virtue. It is only by trusting others that scientists hold the vast bulk of their knowledge, that their knowledge has scope, that they can know things they themselves have not experienced, and, indeed, that they can be effectively skeptical when they wish to be.” (Steven Shapin, Ph.D., Trust, Honesty, and the Authority of Science)

However, what have we come to expect from modern Western academia? For example, “Kevin Trenberth, of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, says as follows:

Well I have my own article on ;where the heck is global warming? We are asking that here in Boulder where we have broken records the past two days for the coldest days on record.

… The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t. The … data published in the August … 2009 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is inadequate.

“The belief system of these scientists is undergoing crisis. For decades, they have predicted catastrophic, accelerated warming-but someone forgot to tell the Earth… It is not clear whether Trenberth realizes that, if true, his assertions would absolutely destroy climate science, not save it; for the measured temperature data is the very best and most direct data that we have (albeit almost impossibly intractable to analyze); and if he throws out all of that data, then all that remains is a hopelessly anemic and ragtag collection of rotting tree stumps and melting ice tubes, without any hope at all of calibrating these souvenirs against real-world temperature measurements.” ~John P. Costella

Costella observed that this, “is climate ideology; it is the Church of Climatology. It is this betrayal of the principles of science-in what is arguably the most important public application of science in our lifetime-that most distresses scientists.”

Bob Carter points to what is missing–independent verification: “the essence of scientific methodology is the free sharing of data, and the unfettered and unprejudiced discussion of those data. Issuing statements of ‘consensus’ or ‘authority’ is antithetical to good science, and especially so in circumstances where the originating organizations have been established with political intent, have acted to restrict public debate or have a financial conflict of interest. Those familiar with the global warming issue will know that (IPCC) authority rules, despite it being well known that some IPCC practitioners of warming alarmism have flouted correct scientific procedures since the 1990s. And, anyway, a science truth is so not because the IPCC, the Royal Society or the Minister for Science asserts it to be so, but because it is based upon a hypothesis that has survived repeated testing by many independent scientists.”

In brief, from the age of enlightenment we have emerged into the philosophy of post-modernism which sets aside evidence as the authority and asserts that the `truth’ is what you believe – if you believe it, then it is your `truth’. Importantly all opinions are to be given equal authority irrespective of the where the evidence may lie. These ideas have progressed to what is now called `Post Normal Science’. This holds that science is subservient to the story that must be told. The role of science is no longer about discovering new `truth’ but supporting the `story’ which is perceived to be the truth. This gives rise to the notion of “noble-cause science”, which allows scientists to ignore contrary evidence, or worse, manipulate the evidence, if the cause is noble. We have seen evidence of this in the climate change debate. (Doug Edmeades)

Free from preconception and bias, what can we really know about the theory that humans cause global warming?

  • We know that global warming is not proven science. Just what is the circumstantial evidence for global warming?
  • We know that climate change is not unusual. It’s not even unusually rapid.
  • We also know that the myth of a scientific consensus belies the actual fact of an ideologically-driven consensus supported by fraud and corruption.
  • We know that the global warming alarmists have become further and further removed from the kind of rationalism that a dispassionate search for truth requires.
  • We see the failure of academia and note its precipitous decline in a sense of truthfulness among AGW scientists in proportion to the reality-inspired cognitive dissonance of the confused Climatology belief system.
  • We see global cooling. We see all of the other completely natural explanations for climate change that global warming alarmists ignore.
  • We know now about all of the errors in historical land measurements, and how NASA is the next CRU; and, we know how more accurate evidence from satellite data does not show any dangerous global warming at all.
  • We have learned that the atmospheric CO2 levels as measured at Mauna Loa are totally erroneous — the mere product of a cottage industry of fabricating data by a father and then his son.
  • We all smelled the carcass of stinking fish in Copenhagen and the Leftist-lib agenda is all too clear to ignore the real truth about the global warming hoax.

Some circumstantial evidence is very strong, as when you find a trout in the milk. ~Henry David Thoreau

The joke is on humanity. Global warming alarmists don’t care about people and the business of living. Poverty, misery and death is the legacy of the Left and liberal fascism.

Herein lies the moral danger behind global warming hysteria. Each day, 20,000 people in the world die of waterborne diseases. Half a billion people go hungry. A child is orphaned by AIDS every seven seconds. This does not have to happen. We allow it while fretting about ‘saving the planet.’ What is wrong with us that we downplay this human misery before our eyes and focus on events that will probably not happen even a hundred years hence? We know that the greatest cause of environmental degradation is poverty; on this, we can and must act. (Philip Stott)

We have learned that the raw data for New Zealand has been manipulated. Satellite data shows that all of the land-based data is corrupted by the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect (and that there has been no global warming for the last 16 years). Manipulation of the data is so bad that the recent discovery concerning a weather station in the Antarctic where the temperature readings were actually changed from minus signs to a plus signs to show global warming almost comes as no surprise.

And then, there was an example of UHI called the ‘tarmac effect’ of land-based data in France where only thermometers at airports–in the winter–showed any warming over the last 50 years. Since then, the problem of data corruption due to continual snow removal during the winter at airports where thermometers are located–while all of the surrounding countryside is blanketed in snow–has been shown to extend far beyond the example in France (e.g., Russia, Alaska).

In reality, there essentially has been no significant global warming in the US since the 1940s. Warming before 1940 accounts for 70% of the warming that took place after the Little Ice Age ended in 1850 (only 15% greenhouse gases that global warming alarmists ascribe to human emissions came before 1940). The only warming that can be ferreted out of the temperature records is in the coldest and most inhospitable regions on Earth, such as in the dry air of the Arctic or Siberia where going from a -50 °C to a -40 °C at one small spot on the globe is extrapolated across tens of thousands of miles and then branded as global warming.

Obviously, the cause of global warming both before and after 1940 is the same: solar activity during that period was inordinately high. Now we are in a period where the sun is anomalously quiet. There is a cause and an effect but it is not AGW: nominally, it’s the sun, stupid; and, the Earth is in a global cooling trend.

The lesson to be learned is that reasearchers who are biased towards their preconceived notions are not really scientists at all. Climatologists with ideologically-motivated preconceptions who wrap up their superstitions and opinions about AGW in the trappings of science may be frauds, hoaxters and flimflammers but they are not scientists.

Epilogue: I fear for the future of Western civilization. AGW prognosticating has become a smithy’s craft. From an age of technology, reason and hope we have turned a dark corner to the disinformation age where schoolteachers trade in their sheepskins for hammers to pound out the coffin nails to be used to bury science.

About Wagathon

Hot World Syndrome—fear of a hotter, more intimidating world than it actually is prompting a desire for more protection than is warranted by any actual threat. A Chance Meeting– We toured south along the Bicentennial Bike Trail in the Summer of 1980, working up appetites covering ~70 miles per day and staying at hiker/biker campgrounds at night along the Oregon/California coast (they were 50¢ a day at that time). The day's ride over, and after setting up tents, hitting the showers, and making a run to a close-by store, it was time to relax. The third in our little bicycle tour group, Tom, was about 30 yards away conversing with another knot of riders and treating himself to an entire cheesecake for dinner. He probably figured Jim and I would joke about what a pig he was eating that whole pie and decided to eat among strangers. Three hours later after sharing stories and remarking on a few coincidences that turned up here and there, Tom and one of the former strangers realized they were cousins, meeting in this most unlikely place for the first time. ~Mac
