Who on Earth Fears the Sun?

There has been no discernible global warming for more than 60 years. Why do Westerners fear it so?

A monomaniacal focus on humanity’s contribution to atmospheric CO2 has been Western academics’ Pyrrhic victory over reason. The mania reached a zenith with the obsessive compulsive melt down of Al Gore following his defeat by George Bush. Historians understand that for the 1000s of years before that it has been the Sun that captured the interest of scholars. Outside Western CO2-phobia the Earth’s climate is seen as the result of a holistic process; we don’t really understand it so we call it nature and we know that nominally it’s the Sun that is the cause of it all.

We know little about the small planet Makemake discovered in 2005 except that it’s a cold and faraway place beyond Neptune. At its distance from the hub of our universe the amount of warmth Makemake gets from the Sun has been compared to the heat from a light bulb more than 30 feet away (about 100 watts at 10 meters).

It is much easier to see what is happening right here on earth. The Earth is of course much closer to the Sun and a lot of solar energy coming our way is actually reflected away. The reflectivity of a glacier, for example, nears 100%. Clouds over the ocean that covers more than 70% of the planet increase as the ocean is warmed by the sun. Clouds reflect solar energy. The moisture in clouds also make rain and thunderstorms. All of these things have been visible to humanity for thousands of years. We call it weather and it changes. We refer to many years of weather as the climate and if humans have enough time on their hands they can find both warming and cooling trends.

As the sea heats, clouds increase. A change in albedo of 2% is equivalent to two doublings of CO2 (from the current 380 ppmv to 1,520 ppmv!)… so a tiny, undetectable change in cloud cover is more than enough to offset any conceivable variation in CO2…

“Since we only use 70% of the sun’s energy, it is clear that the sun puts out more than enough energy to totally roast the earth. It is kept from doing so by the clouds reflecting about 20% of the sun’s energy back to space, and the surface reflecting back another 10%. As near as we can tell, ths system of cloud formation to limit incoming solar energy has never failed. ~Willis Eschenbach

For the last 100,000 years the Earth was locked in an ice age punctuated by brief periods of warming called interglacials. The Earth is currently in an interglacial period of the Quaternary Ice Age, with the last glacial period of the Quaternary having ended approximately 10,000 years ago with the start of the Holocene epoch. In the words of Henrik Svensmark, “enjoy global warming while it lasts.”  We need to ask ourselves why our government pays scientists to purposefully reject easily accessible observational evidence in favor of a belief that is based solely upon unverifiable computer models based on programs written by schoolteachers who hate everything for which America stands to arrive at the conclusion that Americans are causing the Earth to overheat by producing too much CO2 . Svensmark asks us consider “history and recent research” and “take a closer look,” as follows:

“Solar activity has always varied. Around the year 1000, we had a period of very high solar activity, which coincided with the Medieval Warm Period. It was a time when frosts in May were almost unknown – a matter of great importance for a good harvest. Vikings settled in Greenland and explored the coast of North America. On the whole it was a good time. For example, China’s population doubled in this period.

“But after about 1300 solar activity declined and the world began to get colder. It was the beginning of the episode we now call the Little Ice Age. In this cold time, all the Viking settlements in Greenland disappeared. Sweden surprised Denmark by marching across the ice, and in London the Thames froze repeatedly. But more serious were the long periods of crop failures, which resulted in poorly nourished populations, reduced in Europe by about 30 per cent because of disease and hunger.

“It’s important to realise that the Little Ice Age was a global event. It ended in the late 19th Century and was followed by increasing solar activity. Over the past 50 years solar activity has been at its highest since the medieval warmth of 1000 years ago. But now it appears that the Sun has changed again, and is returning towards what solar scientists call a “grand minimum” such as we saw in the Little Ice Age.

“The match between solar activity and climate through the ages is sometimes explained away as coincidence. Yet it turns out that, almost no matter when you look and not just in the last 1000 years, there is a link. Solar activity has repeatedly fluctuated between high and low during the past 10,000 years. In fact the Sun spent about 17 per cent of those 10,000 years in a sleeping mode, with a cooling Earth the result…

“That the Sun might now fall asleep in a deep minimum was suggested by solar scientists at a meeting in Kiruna in Sweden two years ago. So when Nigel Calder and I updated our book The Chilling Stars, we wrote a little provocatively that we are advising our friends to enjoy global warming while it lasts.

“In fact global warming has stopped and a cooling is beginning. Mojib Latif from the University of Kiel argued at the recent UN World Climate Conference in Geneva that the cooling may continue through the next 10 to 20 years. His explanation was a natural change in the North Atlantic circulation, not in solar activity. But no matter how you interpret them, natural variations in climate are making a comeback.”

The ONLY compelling convergent evidence we see from those pushing the theory that humans cause global warming is the picture of collusion and corruption in the field of paleoclimate. The foi2009.pdf disclosures of CRUgate may be painful to see but only charlatans will to hide from it, hide previous interglacial warming, hide the decline, run from the truth, dismiss the corruption of science, and continue to lie to the people.

About Wagathon

Hot World Syndrome—fear of a hotter, more intimidating world than it actually is prompting a desire for more protection than is warranted by any actual threat. A Chance Meeting– We toured south along the Bicentennial Bike Trail in the Summer of 1980, working up appetites covering ~70 miles per day and staying at hiker/biker campgrounds at night along the Oregon/California coast (they were 50¢ a day at that time). The day's ride over, and after setting up tents, hitting the showers, and making a run to a close-by store, it was time to relax. The third in our little bicycle tour group, Tom, was about 30 yards away conversing with another knot of riders and treating himself to an entire cheesecake for dinner. He probably figured Jim and I would joke about what a pig he was eating that whole pie and decided to eat among strangers. Three hours later after sharing stories and remarking on a few coincidences that turned up here and there, Tom and one of the former strangers realized they were cousins, meeting in this most unlikely place for the first time. ~Mac
