Is Climate alarmism a modern age
digital version of crop circles?
Do you believe Western academia in support of the UN and Eurocommunism is engaged in a noble effort to save the world from America and capitalism? Or, does that sound to you more like believing an alien race picked the UK as best place in the universe to announce it’s presence by creating crop circles in wheat fields?
It is always easy to believe with such certainty about what should be done about so many things when it is always someone else who will bear the burden. People do have a remarkable ability to abandon a strongly held belief when it becomes obvious it is costing themselves and not just others. That will be the real test of faith. ~Walter Starck
What about Western academia’s certainty about the cause of climate change. Do we really want to tear down every coal-powered power plant on the basis of their certainty?
In the creation of the IPCC with its monomaniacal obsession with human-causation as the explanation for all global warming — to the exclusion even of natural causes — Leftist governments essentially have been paying the UN and Western academia to lie to us. Climate change is real, government-funding of climate alarmism may go on for years and we all may soon be paying sin taxes for the rest of our lives for just using energy — like people who smoke and drink — but, global warming may be a thing of the past for decades.
“ Uncertainty plays a huge role in this issue. It’s not that we expect disaster, it’s that the uncertainty is said to offer the possibility of disaster: implausible, but high consequence. Somewhere it has to be like the possible asteroid impact: Live with it. ~Richard Lindzen
What happens when climate alarmists face solar realities? Scientist Mike Lockwood says, “solar activity is now falling more rapidly than at any time in the last 10,000 years.” When it comes to climate change, nothing could be more uncertain –e.g., meteorologist Joseph D’Aleo observed that, “4 of the top snowiest years for the northern hemisphere have been in the last 6 years.” And, climate alarmists models are full of hot air –e.g., “Recent observed global warming is significantly less than that simulated by climate models.” [See, Fyfe, JC, et al., Overestimated global warming over the past 20 years. Nature Climate Change. V3 (Sept. 2013)]
Fyfe’s findings are based on a study of 117 GCM simulations over a 20-year period comparing the results of model predictions to the observed rate of warming. From 1993 to 2012, the “global mean surface temperature… rose at a rate of 0.14 ± 0.06 °C per decade,” and the observed warming over the last 15 years of the period was, “not significantly different from zero.” GCMs, however, simulated a “rise in global mean surface temperature of 0.30 ± 0.02 °C per decade.” Compared to the actual rate of warming, the simulated rate was more than double.” Moreover, simulations were more than four times higher than actual over the last 15 years. Needless to say, the “null hypothesis that the observed and model mean trends are equal,” is rejected: statistically, there is but a 1 in 500 chance these GCMs are actually looking at the same planet we live on.
Climate alarmism flows from the nihilism of Leftist thinking and a belief that the rest of humanity is evil and engaged in activities that are destroying the Earth. The “new approach to environmentalism,” according to Dr. Patrick Moore, “requires embracing humans as a positive element in evolution rather than viewing us as some kind of mistake.” One of Einstein’s peers Freeman Dyson has a far more inspiring view about the existence of humanity: “As we look out into the Universe and identify the many accidents of physics and astronomy that have worked together to our benefit, it almost seems as if the Universe must in some sense have known that we were coming.”
The climatists keep fiddling with their mathematical models but to what end? They are creating not resolving statistical problems. Continually fine tuning parameters based on real-world observations may result in a fine picture of a world gone by. That such models actually capture all the forces and relationships between the forces that comprise past climate and future weather and by extension future climate is an illusion. GCMs are not helping us know the future like crystal balls with built-in answers. There was this this supporting observation last week from testimony before Congress (Hearing on A Factual Look at the Relationship Between Climate and Weather, Dec. 11, 2013) by Dr. John R. Christy, Professor and Director, Earth System Science Center, NSSTC, University of Alabama in Huntsville):
“For example, we were told by the IPCC that milder winter temperatures will decrease heavy snowstorms… After the winters of 2009-10 and 2010-11, we are told the opposite by advocates of the IPCC position, Climate Change Makes Major Snowstorms More Likely… The non-falsifiable hypotheses can be stated this way, whatever happens is consistent with my hypothesis. In other words, there is no event that would falsify the hypothesis. As such, these assertions cannot be considered science, or in anyway informative, since the hypothesis’ fundamental prediction is anything can happen.
Also testifying at the hearing, Dr. Roger Pielke Jr., Professor and Director, Center for Science and Technology Policy Research, University of Colorado), observed that the IPCC fifth assessment report (2013) concluded that it is improper to link the increasing costs of natural disasters to CO2. That’s logical given that, according to Pielke, the IPCC also accepts there is, “little scientific support for claims found in the media and political debate that hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and drought have increased in frequency or intensity on climate timescales either in the United States or globally.”
Since anything can happen, nothing can stop alarmism about global warming, even as hell freezes over. It is politically incorrect to note that the UK is looking forward to the coldest winter since 1947. Rather than snow being a rare occurrence it’s happening now and it’s not even winter.
Ayn Rand certainly gave all she had to promote pragmatic humanism over the pathology of political correctness aka pathological altruism. A system built on anything other the necessity to choose rational self-interest is either a monarchy, a despotism or a nihilism. The essence of individual freedom is being able to choose, not be given a choice by someone else. The uniqueness of the N. American experience is that the system is based on inalienable rights of all men, given to them by their creator and guaranteed to them by a piece of paper, a contract, not given and guaranteed by other men. That is why the Leftist must deny human nature, deny faith and destroy the Constitution.
“It is important to note that during the twentieth century, tens of millions individuals were killed under despotic regimes that rose to power through appeals to altruism…The study of pathological altruism, in other words, is not a minor, inconsequential offshoot of the study of altruism but instead is a topic of overwhelming scientific and public importance. ~Barbara Oakley
The pathological altruism of global warming alarmism is less about heat distribution than income distribution. You know hell has frozen over when you see, The Huffington Post Canada, headline: Why Humans Don’t Have Much To Do With Climate Change. Sure, the Left is in freefall. But, the Left cannot undo all the harm that’s been done already. Scaring children like Greenpeace tries to do by using Santa Clause to spread global warming propaganda does more than expose the dystopian views that color their beliefs. How many ppm of the population will never find meaningful employment as a result of spending millions of dollars to waste society’s attention on a phony problem that too many ppm of CO2 is causing global warming? The businesses that employ people need and use energy to provide goods and services. Using the example of the undoing of David Suzuki, Leftist-environmentalist, Dr. Tim Ball observed how extremism is all beginning to fall apart for the Left:
“His [David Suzuki’s] television series became his undoing as a classic example of how extremism is its own undoing… I identified some of the misinformation in a presentation to farmers in Saskatchewan a few years ago. Afterward a woman told me that a month earlier she would have disagreed with my comments. Now she understood because Suzuki did a program on farming and as a farmer’s wife she knew how wrong and biased it was. Each new program exposed another segment of society to the deception… The same is happening to climate alarmism as more and more segments of society are negatively affected. His actions and climate driven energy policies close industries, decimate communities, cause job losses and force business closures.. It parallels what is happening in the climate alarmist community. The comments and claims become more extreme, but achieve the opposite of their goal.
Ah! a lesson for us all: following the advice of Confucius — as we face the fall of Western civilization — how today would we define in a new dictionary the Western democracy of science authoritarians, Leftist fascists and liberal and Utopians? Certainly, ruling with a far more strict adherence to the Constitution would have been more wise. When, honesty becomes dishonest… goodness becomes witchcraft.

Who knows what the future holds?
