Guns in Schools and Global Warming

Astronomers are certain the asteroid will miss this time.

Recognizing natural variability from man-caused disaster is Western civilization’s big challenge. What is going on in today’s classrooms is what we let happen. Western society’s indulgence of a Leftist academia has borne a bitter fruit.

Our government-funded school teachers have turned enlightenment into superstition like demented alchemists turning gold into lead. All hope for truth in the classroom is dead: making and spreading fears about our modern way of life being the cause of disastrous climate changes around the globe — that can only be stopped by electing Eurocommunist/socialists to the highest public offices — has only resulted in academia’s abandonment of any pretense to moral authority.

Did you know that as a seventh-grader in California in the mid-fifties you could have brought a borrowed rifle to high school? Neither teachers nor students harbored any fear about it –e.g., an eleven or twelve year old kid packing anything from an automatic to a vintage octagon barrel pump action rifle. Back then, NRA Hunter Safety courses were offered at the local junior high. The high-point of the course was firing a .22 rifle at the gun range of a nearby high school. The basement gun range is where participants in ROTC learned the basics about firearms. What’s changed since then? ROTC programs have mostly been banned in California and permitting the NRA to teach gun safety to seventh graders is as welcome as children reciting the cub scout oath on school property: I promise to do my best, to do my duty to God and my country, to help other people, and to obey the Law of the Pack.

Since then we have learned that global warming alarmism really is a conspiracy and honesty has been the real victim. What could be more whimsical and purposefully obscure than to call the study of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) — the theory that people cause global warming — the science of climate change? Going on two decades of no global warming and Leftist-dominated academia still does not object to a characterization of the AGW hypothesis as being a ‘consensus’ of scientific opinion. That is a damning conspiracy of silence.

Saying nothing while drawing a salary as a climatist and stabbing those in the back who pay all of the expenses of the government-education complex is Orwellian for, ‘us academics are socialists to the last drop of the blood of the productive.’ The self-appointed aristocracy of global warming alarmism specializes in the manufacture of nothing but pretense. Samuel Beckett’s Pozzo was at the least far more honest than today’s climatocracy in admitting his need for the productive: “I cannot go long without the society of my likes.” (Waiting for Godot)

And, the Leftist-dominated environmental movement has become nothing more than treating smokers like “S” words and extorting donations from wealthy old crones by characterizing businesses as being engaged in nothing more than exterminating polar bears and clubbing fur seal pups to death.

We’re now well into the second decade of the pause… If we don’t see convincing evidence of global warming by 2015, it will start to become clear whether the models are bunk. And, if they are, the implications for some scientists could be very serious. ~Benny Peiser

Pal Brekke of the Norwegian Space Centre wonders if much of the global warming from the 70s to the 90s was actually caused by ocean water cycles, not CO2. “‘Nature is about to carry out a very interesting experiment,” Brekke says. ‘Ten or 15 years from now, we will be able to determine much better whether the warming of the late 20th Century really was caused by man-made CO2, or by natural variability.”

[When] attributing warming to man, they [climate alarmists] fail to point out that the warming has been small, and totally consistent with there being nothing to be alarmed about. ~Dr. Richard Lindzen (MIT)

The coming winter cold of 2013/14 in the UK will remind many that climate change merely states the obvious and that global warming isn’t bad like those on the Left keep telling us. As Henrik Svensmark told us, “enjoy global warming while it lasts.”

It all comes down to personal responsibility. We are able to create endless whimsical views of the world so quickly that if our real motive is societal and not climate change, then we can easily predict problems where none exist — as a means to achieve our ends — and, always be a step ahead of the fact-checkers and a reasoned analysis of how serious or not serious such ‘problems’ actually are. Rather than use automation for understanding and enlightenment school teachers are restricting knowledge by using computers to make the world more frightening and obscure.

Western academia has no understanding and no acceptance of the simple fact that the power of the individual over the power of the government is the true path to greatness. Belief that government can stop the seas from rising is a detour. As the research vessel Akademik Shokalskiy lies stuck in the ice since Christmas with climatists aboard awaiting rescue and an airlift to safety, academia wrongfully teaches us all again and again — as government-funded global warming alarmists and in our personal lives —  that there are few if any real consequences for being wrong, even when forced to come face to face with the reality of our delusions.

When are we ‘gonna learn? We quickly figure out it’s icy cold in the Arctic and Antarctic when some greenies set off on an expedition to prove the Earth is doomed by global warming. This sort of hubris usually ends in some Herculean rescue effort, amputated and frostbitten fingers and eco-whackpots being rescued by copters or an oil

There is a reason why all of the global warming alarmists are on the Left. The Left fears a free man more than global warming. It will never be the natural disposition of  AGW true believers to offer people hope of a life based on individual liberty, personal health, happiness, property and wealth; there is a disconnect: they see no value in overcoming fear and superstition with hard work, sacrifice and the power of knowledge. For the Left, CO2-producing humanity is the enemy.

The Left indulges itself in the best society has to offer while imagining peasant girls dancing on grapes with bare feet to make wine and conjuring up fanciful notions about idyllic rural happiness. All the while these pampered and hypocritical urban climate alarmists probably have never even grown a tomato plant. Does this energy-hating new climatocracy ever stop to consider the life of toil actually involved in the manual threshing of fields for those without energy? Will the climatocracy be ready to go to the farms when their liberal Utopia crashes down under the weight of collective ignorance?

You know a culture faces a big problem when Al Gore speaks for science. Gore compared Earth’s future to planets like Mars and Venus and did so while climatologists in Western academia remained mute. The actual facts are that the concentration of atmospheric CO2 of these planets is 95-97% respectively (compared to Earth’s <0.04%), with very thin and very thick atmospheres compared to Earth (100X thinner and 90X thicker respectively). Both planets are wholly unlike Earth which is a water world.

In October of this year, Paul Hudson of the BBC reported on what may actually be a problem –a Real risk of a Maunder minimum ‘Little Ice Age’ says leading scientist:

Professor Lockwood believes solar activity is now falling more rapidly than at any time in the last 10,000 years.

He found 24 different occasions in the last 10,000 years when the sun was in exactly the same state as it is now – and the present decline is faster than any of those 24.

Based on his findings he’s raised the risk of a new Maunder minimum from less than 10% just a few years ago to 25-30%.

In a recent interview Russ Roberts asked Freeman Dyson if he had changed his opinion about climate change, as follows:

Q: Have your views changed since you wrote that?**

FD: No. I would stick with that.

Q: How would you respond to the people who say: There’s a threat and the natural, healthy thing to do is to reduce our risk and respond to it as best we can, even if we don’t understand it perfectly; if we wait till then, it will be too late?

FD: No, that’s not the choice you have. Everything you do is risky. You don’t, just by trying to reduce burning fossil fuels–doesn’t mean you’ve got rid of the risk. Merely means you are taking different kinds of risk. They could be worse. It could very well be that the welfare of the planet would be damaged by reducing carbon dioxide. We just don’t know.

** Quote of Dyson from a few years ago, about climate change: “When I listen to the public debates about climate change, I am impressed by the enormous gaps in our knowledge, the sparseness of our observations and the superficiality of our theories. Many of the basic processes of planetary ecology are poorly understood. They must be better understood before we can reach an accurate diagnosis of the present condition of our planet. When we are trying to take care of a planet, just as when we are taking care of a human patient, diseases must be diagnosed before they can be cured. We need to observe and measure what is going on in the biosphere, rather than relying on computer models.” ~Freeman Dyson

What keeps climate change science humming along is that academia is willing to be right even if only in parts per million –i.e., principles of pragmatism, free enterprise, personal responsibility, efficient allocation of scarce resources, all mean nothing to them. Impending and out-of-control global warming is the Vaporware that the Left has been selling: the heat has been predicted using GCMs and the problems that the heat will cause has pretty much been described to be anything and everything bad that anyone in a Ph.D program is capable of imagining. Nobel prizes have been given.

But, the evidence for AGW is not good. Even so, Euro-UN-approved and official government global warming alarmists are supremely confident in their conclusions. That sort of certainty has led to the death of billions of people over the last few thousand years.

Imagine being able to go back and ask global warming alarmists back in 1996 what it would take to change their minds about climate change. For example, what if they knew then that there would be no global warming over the next 17 years despite official government models projecting otherwise? Obviously, their belief in AGW should be seriously challenged, irrespective of Al Gore’s movie, An Inconvenient Truth. But, here we are, 17 years later — still no global warming — while Western academia and Leftist politicians are more sure than ever that doom is certain.

This is how a hoax dies… Western academia turned CO2 in a mystical element with powers never seen in nature. Thus, the AGW glass bead game was born. And now, all of the masters of the game are drowning in the cool waters into which they waded. It is all so interesting how we have come to this. The Masters of the Global Warming Game were oh! so very smart — at least by their own assessments — and yet in actuality, unfit to survive reality.

And now, it’s time to slow down, turn down and trim down a government of partisan fear-pushers. Academia cannot abandon morality in the classroom without consequence. Society cannot accept models and computer games as a substitutes for reality. “The EPA cannot continue to rush ahead with costly regulations without allowing time for a real-world look at the science.” ~Rep. House Science Committee

About Wagathon

Hot World Syndrome—fear of a hotter, more intimidating world than it actually is prompting a desire for more protection than is warranted by any actual threat. A Chance Meeting– We toured south along the Bicentennial Bike Trail in the Summer of 1980, working up appetites covering ~70 miles per day and staying at hiker/biker campgrounds at night along the Oregon/California coast (they were 50¢ a day at that time). The day's ride over, and after setting up tents, hitting the showers, and making a run to a close-by store, it was time to relax. The third in our little bicycle tour group, Tom, was about 30 yards away conversing with another knot of riders and treating himself to an entire cheesecake for dinner. He probably figured Jim and I would joke about what a pig he was eating that whole pie and decided to eat among strangers. Three hours later after sharing stories and remarking on a few coincidences that turned up here and there, Tom and one of the former strangers realized they were cousins, meeting in this most unlikely place for the first time. ~Mac

The turning point in the evolution of mankind’s ability to use energy for further advancement was either:

    1. The atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima on 6 Aug 1945, or

    2. The 1,000 times more powerful Tsar bomb that the USSR exploded on 30 Oct 1961:

    Thank you, Wagathon!

    You are on target.

The problem seems to be flaws in the very make-up of humans. Flaws that may prevent humans from advancing to the next stage of evolution.

I do not know how to solve the problem, but I think we may finally be in a good position to recognize and discuss this problem.

    With kind regards,
    Oliver K. Manuel
